Decarbonising our way of life is essential to combat climate change and ensure a sustainable future. This transformation must encompass various sectors, including heat, power, communications, water, and transport, with digitalisation and consumer behaviour playing pivotal roles. Importantly, the transition must be affordable to ensure widespread adoption and equity.

Our challenge is to get the UK to…

Decarbonise
properties

Decarbonise an average of 20,000 properties each week for the next 20 to 25 years to meet its goal

Improve
efficiency

Continue working to improve the energy and water efficiency of all UK households

Use smart
technology

Explore retrofit technologies, controls and appliances, as well as the building fabric itself.

Accelerating a fair and sustainable decarbonisation for all

We continue to work hard to explore with key stakeholders, both inside and outside the energy sector, how NeRV can contribute to our collective work programme to accelerate net zero. In sharing our ambition and capability of the site, we can learn how our work can complement and support, work already underway across different sectors. This will ensure that NeRV prioritises to deliver greatest impact via a collaborative work programme. This will support whole system development and deliver our collective ambition of decarbonisation whilst securing funding streams beyond NGN

A unique feature of the Research Village is its capability to scale from individual houses to streets and up to regions. This scalability allows for the exploration of sector interdependencies, such as the integration of energy, transportation and water systems. By examining these interdependencies, the village can develop comprehensive strategies that maximise efficiency and sustainability across multiple sectors.
