DEVELOPING AUTOMATED DETECTION SYSTEMS
Ensuring the safe use of hydrogen in domestic buildings
The UK government and energy regulator Ofgem have initiated projects to ensure the safe use of hydrogen gas in domestic buildings.
A policy decision on hydrogen’s use in the gas network for heating homes will follow once the safety case is confirmed.
HyBreak – The NIA project aims to develop an automated solution, to be physically tested at NeRV, to monitor home pressures, flow rates, isolate supplies in emergencies, and communicate with customers and gas networks. It covers natural gas, hydrogen, and hydrogen blends.
Collaboration involves UK and Ireland gas distribution networks (GDNs) and National Gas Metering.
The focus is on:
Working with the NeRV team, the project uses a novel approach combining agile project management and traditional methodologies, improving collaboration, learning, and agility, thus exceeding delivery targets and generating additional benefits.
