Every home has a story. And when it comes to reducing energy use and decarbonising our homes, we all have different priorities, challenges and opportunities.

As part of our vision to ensure that no customer gets left behind in the energy transition, the Futures Close test properties are more than real-world housing archetypes, they are also home to a diverse community of virtual residents.

Developed as part of the Futures Close app experience, each home has a digital owner or occupier who has been created using real data, from real people.

Bringing customer voices to life

Using the voices of real energy customers to build understanding of how different people might experience the transition to net zero is a simple – yet powerful – way to ensure that in the midst of all the technical conversations, people remain at the centre of the energy transition.

Each resident profile encourages app users and NeRV visitors alike to develop their understanding beyond technical building data to net zero’s broader social impact by bringing to life …  

• Who might live there (owner occupier, private rented, social rented).
• Their financial circumstances (fuel poverty through to higher-income households).
• Their challenges, motivations and barriers to adoption (cost saving, comfort, wellbeing, environmental concern and future-proofing).
